Two Solutions to North Korean Problem

Nice article-opinion from Newsvine: Kevin. I thought I should share it:

The latest provocation out of North Korea was not just a cry for attention by the Communist dictator, Kim Jong Il, in my view this could be construed as an act of war. Particularly given the revelation today that their ICBM seemed to have been aimed at the State of Hawaii. I see two solutions to the North Korean problem as it seems to be clear that the 6 party negotiations have failed. The first; Full engagement by China to denounce and de-fang Kim Jong Il and his regime. The second; A strategic strike by the United States to disable North Korea’s ability to launch missiles.

Engagement by China would be the best course of action. I believe that China and China alone has the ability to peacefully stop North Korea in its quest to destabilize the region. But why won’t China enforce its power? I believe that China doesn’t mind the actions of North Korea and actually wants it to be the agitator in the region. China has its sights set on uniting all of Asia under its control and has the patience to methodically manipulate events to that end. South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan only hold on to their sovereignty by the thin threads of protection from the United States.

North Korea has been infiltrating South Korea with Communist sympathizers over the last several decades. The generation that lived through the Korean War is dying out and so are the memories of how and why it occurred. The elementary schools in the South have been teaching anti-American propaganda and pro-reunification with the North. It has gotten so bad in some areas of South Korea that the schools are actually revising history and teaching that the United States provoked the North and started the war in order to gain control over the Korean Peninsula for protection against China. I know these things to be true as I have contacts with some people in Korea that have been reporting this for at least the last 20 years.

The most likely event to occur, in my opinion, will be a strategic strike by the United States on North Korea’s ability to launch its missiles. North Korea has chosen the bold action of defying its own allies in an effort to prove that it can strike the United States with a weapon of mass destruction. Another launch by North Korea, by a missile capable of hitting the U.S., that is aimed in the direction of the U.S. can now be viewed as an attempt to kill Americans and another act of war. A strike by the U.S. will severely cripple the North’s ability to wage war while at the same time proving to the rest of the world that the U.S. will never back down to countries and organizations that threaten the lives of Americans. The United States can not afford to sit by and wait while the other world powers discuss the matter in the United Nations. Time and time again the United Nations Security Council has proved to be totally ineffective at handling rouge nations. With China and Russia both opposing sanctions of any kind toward North Korea the only thing sure to come out of the U.N. is nothing but talk.

I don’t believe a U.S. strike on North Korea will provoke a larger conflict in the region, so long as the U.S. does not set plans to invade and overthrow Kim Jong Il. China does not want to risk war with the U.S. just as much as the U.S. does not want to risk war with China. An attack from the U.S. may actually help China in its quest for Asian dominance. China will develop even tighter relations with North Korea and if reunification ever comes to fruition China will then have control of the entire Korean Peninsula.
