KBS Interview
Q: Al Jazeera has become a global name, please give our readers a brief introduction of Al Jazeera.
A: We have come a long way since it was launched in November 1996. Al Jazeera means peninsula in Arabic. It got its name because Al Jazeera’s main headquarter is located in the heart of Qatar. We have more than 30 bureaus and dozens of correspondents covering the four corners of the world. We give millions of our audiences a refreshing new perspective on global events. And I must mention, the motto of Al Jazeera is covering all viewpoints with objectivity, integrity and balance.
Q: I heard this is not your first time at KBS.
A: Let’s see. It was from 1979 to1985, for six years I was a journalist at RKI (Radio Korea International). KBS is where I started my life as a broadcaster. It’s like my home in heart. Almost 20 years have passed, but I was so glad to meet some of my KBS colleagues today.
Q: Was there a special reason for you to work at KBS?
A: I was sent to KBS as part of a government project. During the six years stay I met the most precious person in my life, my wife. I know from my experience Korean women are great mothers and wives.
Q: What brought you to Korea this time?
A: We were privileged enough to be invited by the Korea Press Foundation. Our main purpose of this visit is to gather information on additional dispatch of Korean troops to Iraq. We had interviews with prominent Korean decision-makers such as the Minister of Defense, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. We will do a special reporting on this issue when we go back to Doha.
